Yarn Along no More

It's been ages since I shown anything I've done with yarn. I had been crocheting instead of knitting, for some reason I can last longer crocheting before my wrist start hurting.  So I made this baby blanket out of stash yarn.  No pattern just all double crochet, very simple, a non thinking pattern. Also been slowly finishing a scarf I'm weaving. Started this after Christmas but had it put away and forgot about it until now. I have yarn picked out for the next one so I need to get this done and it's close to being done. Now for what I'm reading. Have two books going at the same time, one I'm listening to and the other I'm reading for Lent. Listening to The Hidden Life of Trees.   I don't believe you need to be a tree lover like I am to enjoy this book. It's fascinating on how much I didn't realize about trees.  " Trees, have a sense of time, have memories, taste, smell, feel, explore, see,

Yarn and Reading

I've been needing to share what I've been making with my little cricket loom. I am so in love with weaving that I'm afraid I'm going to have to get a bigger one. But I believe I will wait till the new year and make it a birthday present for myself.  So far I've just been weaving scarves. I have a large stash of yarn that have been given to me over the years and seeing how my carpal tunnel is not getting any better this weaving is perfect for using up my stash. And besides that they make great gifts or for donations.  So here is what I have done so far minus one scarf that my youngest daughter has already claimed of her own and taken.  After I'm done with this one on the loom which I'm afraid will not be long enough for a scarf because this is the last of the yarn I have. Next is these yarns here I plan on loading up. I have seen so many very beautiful scars using all types of novelty yarns and thread. So I'm going to gi

Yarn Along

WOW!!! I knew it had been a while since I have participated at Small Things with Genny. In fact March 23th was the last time. I haven't  been knitting much but have been weaving on the little loom I bought this year. I have wrote about my little cricket here   . My plan is to share the scarfs I had woven the past few month but not in this post, soon tho. But Monday I was putting a few things away and came across this pattern for a Knitted Santa Cup Cozy I had printed off from here . This afternoon I finished the pieces and attached the arms and put on the buttons. Had a good collection of red buttons to pick from. So what do you think? Cute..... but not sure how useful. This would mainly be decorative for me. Maybe candy canes!! I have read a bunch.  So many to just put in this post, it would take me all night    What I thought I would do is give you a list of some of my favorites I read. Devil in White C

Books and Yarn Gadgets

I want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and comments, I'm feeling a lot better, almost my old self.  Wish I could say that I'd finished the cat cocoon while in California but fortunately am very close to the end. Towards the end of my visit it seemed as though I would either be very busy or very tired to knit. But it looks as though I'll have it done shortly and will get it felted, take a picture and mail it off to my daughter. Now for my new gadgets, I broke down and finally purchased a swift and a ball winder.  I have been wanting these for ages  but could not see myself getting one until I started the Loops club. In the past I would get the shop to wind my yarn from a hank  into a ball. But recently it seems like I've been coming home with hanks. I wound one up before I left and it was not a pretty sight. I did it before and use the back of a chair to hold my yarn and it works but not easily. So with my mighty iP

Reads and Knitting

While here at the kids house I've been working on a little needlework but mainly been knitting. That's because of the convince of being able to just grab my bag and off I go, whether it's just here in the house or in the car.. Have to say that is one of great thing I like about knitting. Brought two projects with me and been making some progress. The cat cocoon is moving along, especially now that I'm working on decreasing for the top portion.   As you can see it's just a big ball, lot bigger now but once wash and shrunken down it should be perfect size..   I would love to get this done before I leave so I can give it to my oldest daughter who also lives here. Then I started a scarf that was one of the Loops Clubs  projects.  Each month I'll get a new small project and this is one from March. Liking the pattern because it's a no brainier because its a repeat of just 2 rows. So no need for me to have to keep looking up

On my needles

On my needles currently is another Fringeworthy scarf . Using that beautiful multicolored yarn that I had purchased a couple weeks ago. It's knitting up lovely and the variation as it progresses is gorgeous. Very soft and pliable, it should drape well. So Springy and Summery looking.  This past weekend while at the Stillwater Art Festival, I picked up a skein of some llama   Alpaca  yarn. Oh my gosh, this stuff is so soft. It's like cuddling a kitten This yarn will definitely be a scarf and I'm looking forward to making and wearing it. I figure this will probably be one of the projects I'll take with me to California next month. Now if the "little dudes" don't wear Grammy out, I might be able to get a little knitting done in the evening. Now for what I'm currently listening to. Is Becoming Wise by KristaTippett.  She has a program on NPR called On Being . It's a very enlightening show. Krista

Yeah!!!!

I can toot my horn today, have two knitted projects done. First one is the socks that was done two at a time, cool idea but I'll not do it again. This method is not for me, the yarn would get t angled up  constantly and felt like I was wasting time fooling around with the two strands of yarn.  You never know what will work or not. And they will make a great pair of house socks. I used a worsted weight yarn and they seem a little on the big side but very comfy. Second is the scarf I started little over a couple weeks ago. This is the one that was a free pattern and you can get it here  The ribbon was old and a little stiff but did soften up after a washing. Very pleased with how it turned out and will make this again.  In fact... purchase some new yarn for another.  Making the fringe was easy and work like it said in the directions which was great because I was nervous about if I could do it but I had no problem.  Now to I
